A lesson from Ares...

Jenni felt completely safe in Ares' arms during their dance. She was slowly drifting into the music when he spoke to her. "Have you been practicing, Dragonflyer?"

Jenni looked up into his eyes, unsure of the question. "Lord Ares?"

"Practicing. You know... your spell work?"

"Oh... that. Well, I really haven't had much time, what with this party and all..."

Ares held her chin up and looked into her eyes. "Then I suggest you start now."

"But, Ares, this is a party..." she starts.

Ares put up a hand. "I won't take no for an answer."

"Fine. What should I practice first. I already know how to light candles with just a flick of my fingers."

Ares looks around the room. "I want you to try and read the mind of a mortal."

Jenni couldn't believe his request. That's something only the gods can do, she thought to herself. "You can't be serious. I can only do that to dragons..."

"You aren't exactly reading the dragon's thoughts, my dear. You are merely talking to them without sound. Now, I want you to read..." Ares looks around the room and smiles. "I want you to read Sinn's mind."

"Have you gone completely mad? Sinn is a good friend of mine. I won't read her mind."

"You refuse me? No, I don't think I heard you correctly."

Jenni looked down and then back at Sinn, who was smiling up at Iolaus. Jenni sighed, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She concentrated and Sinn's thoughts flooded her mind. Jenni, scared, quickly opened her eyes. "Wha..."

Ares smiled. "You read her thoughts. Good... real good. Now, what were they?"

"Ares, I can't..." Jenni started to cry.

"Aww... now come on, Spellcaster. Her thoughts couldn't be that bad."

"That's not it. I don't like what just happened."

Ares held Jenni close, wrapping an arm around her head so that her head was leaning against his chest. "It's alright, Dragonflyer. It's scary at first but you'll get used to it. Sometimes, it comes in handy. I think that's enough for now. We'll continue later."

Jenni and Ares danced a little more until Jenni stopped crying. Then Ares waved his hand over her eyes so no one would know that she was crying. Ares kissed Jenni's hand and lead her back to Hercules.

"Take care, Jennifer." Ares looked to Hercules. "Don't hurt her. I'm watching."

Hercules shot Ares a nasty glare. "Don't worry. She's in good hands... NOW."

Ares went to say something when Jenni lightly kissed his lips. "It's alright, my Lord. I'll be fine."

Ares brought Jenni in close and looked into her eyes. "If you need me, just reach out with your thoughts. I'll hear you," he whispered as he kissed her passionatly. Then he turned and walked away.

Jenni turned back to Hercules, blushing a little. "So, want to get some fresh air?"

Hercules smiled at Jenni. "I don't like Ares but I won't say anything bad about him to you. You are one of his priestesses and I'll just have to deal with that. Great Zeus, you are beautiful." Hercules pulled Jenni in and stared into her eyes. Then he kissed her, for the second time during the party, very passionately. Jenni could hear Iolaus' thoughts and tried desperately to get rid of them. When Hercules broke the kiss, Iolaus' thoughts disappeared. Jenni lightly shook her head and grabbed Hercules' arm.

"Come on, Herc, I need some air."

Hercules and Jenni headed out to the courtyard (do we have one?). This party was getting way too weird. On their way out, Jenni smiled at Sinn and Iolaus as though nothing was wrong. Sinn waved and Iolaus just smiled back.
