First some comments -- great stories everyone! And Sinn, salt first then tequila. Now just guess what I did with the salt and lime! And where I stuck the tequila glass while I was preparing the salt! And Ped, hilarious limbo contest! So Caesar and Auto distracted me, huh? They certainly wouldn't have to try hard to do that. :-)
Now, on w/the story...
KimD leaned against the bar, swished her rum and coke around in the glass, and sighed happily. This night was turning out to be such fun! From her ritual body shot with Caesar (she could still feel where he had licked the salt off her neck and the tequila off her chest when he spilled a bit taking it from her cleavage with his mouth) to her dance with Auto to her falling on her butt during the limbo contest. Right now she was quite comfortable standing between the real god of war and the costumed god of war, just watching the crowd. Then she noticed Hephaestus sitting off in the corner dressed looking bored. So she decided to go talk to him.
"Jules, I'm going for a walk. Be back soon. Don't miss me too much."
Caesar looked at her sideways. "Not a problem. There are a couple of Priestesses over there just dying to dance with me. I can see it."
Ares looked over, his arms crossed before him, and rolled his eyes. "Puh lease. They're my Priestesses and they've never been able to keep their eyes off me. And besides, if you ever want to looking even minutely convincing as the god of war, you better hit the gym skinny boy. Right now you look more like my nephew Strife than you do me."
"Excuse me?" Caesar took a step towards Ares.
KimD rolled her eyes and stepped back between them. "Guys, knock off the macho act, OK? We're in the Temple of *Love* tonight, so kiss and make up." Then she walked away.
She headed over to Heph. He had a white mask on that covered only half his face and a long black cape. "Hey Heph!"
Heph looked at her and then did a double take. "Wow, I didn't recognize you. I thought you really were Alecto for a second."
"I'll take that as a compliment." KimD sat next to Heph. "Though I won't be wearing my hair stuck straight up like this on a daily basis. So, Heph, who are you supposed to be?"
"I'm the Phantom of the Forge."
"What's that?"
"It's a story handed down by forgers through the ages. This young forger is burned, scarring his face forever and wanders the tunnels beneath my mountain mourning the loss of the love of his life, always keeping the scarred part of his face covered in his shame."
"Heph, isn't that the story some of the stupider villagers tell about you?"
"Well, yes. I thought to just bring their stories to life, and while I'm at it, cover the face that started those stories."
"Heph," KimD lifted his mask. "You have a beautiful, honest, very handsome face." She then kissed him on the cheek and replaced the mask. "You're in a bad mood tonight, aren't you Heph? You haven't been this gloomy in a long.... Wait, this must have to do with Aphrodite."
"Good guess. We had a fight."
KimD patted his arm. "Sweetie, that's all the more excuse to force yourself to have a really good time! Dance with me!" She tugged on his arm. At first he resisted, and then he got up with a sigh. He took her and and gave her a small smile.
"Thanks."
"For what?"
"For trying to make me feel better."
"Hey, doll. I didn't do it for you. I was tired of standing between two conceited oafs.
"Ah, you mean the bookends."
KimD laughed out loud. "Yes, the bookends. I wanted to spend some time with a real gentleman. A man of inner and outer beauty."
He smiled sincerely at her and gave her a small kiss on the mouth. "Let's dance."
They went to the dance floor and danced. After a few minutes, Heph loosened up and actually seemed to be having a nice time. Suddenly, KimD heard the "poof" that signaled the appearance of a god. Upon seeing Heph's eyes light up, and then immediately cloud over, she knew exactly who it was. She looked over her shoulder to see Aphrodite surrounded by men. "Heph, pay her no mind. Come on! Have fun."
He looked down at her. "You're right!" Taking KimD by complete surprise, he dipped her and gave her a great big kiss.
Comotion then ensued....
