Now, how can I resist Joxer?
Kiari and Autolycus stopped dancing when the new guests arrived.
"Well, would you look at that," the king of thieves commented.
Kiari grinned. "Joxer! Come on, let's go say hi." She pulled on his sleeve, dragging him to the food table.
"Kiari!" Joxer threw his arms around her, food flying. He nodded at Autolycus, who rolled his eyes.
"I'm getting a drink," Autolycus said, swatting Kiari on the butt.
"Okay," she smiled, watching him walk away. She turned her brown eyes on her friend. "Well, haven't seen you in awhile. Been staying out of trouble?"
"Trouble stays out of my way," Joxer said, crunching on a carrot. "Although Xena says I died at one point. I don't remember."
"Still carrying a torch for the bard?" She teased gently.
Joxer glanced at Gabrielle and sighed. "Nah, I'm over her."
Kiari nodded. "Sure you are."
"I am!"
"Did I say you weren't? Hey, come on and dance with me," she urged.
"Me, dance?" He put the rest of the carrot in his mouth. "I'm not a very good dancer."
"That's not what I remember," she said, tugging at him.
It was a somewhat slow dance and she kept glancing over at the bar, where Autolycus was talking with a couple of the priestesses. He kept glancing over at her, eyebrow raised. Kiari just flashed a smile at him.
"So, what's up with you and the thief?" Joxer asked.
Kiari shrugged. "We're just friends."
"Hmm, friends? I saw how you two were dancing."
"Okay, so I like him a lot," Kiari huffed. "He's so adorable!"
It was Joxer's turn to roll his eyes. "He's a thief, Kiari. You should go for a stand up guy, like me! A brave warrior with a great song. Have you heard the new version to my song?" He started singing, throwing Kiari into a fit of laughter. But he didn't seem to mind. He liked the twinkle in her eyes when she laughed.
Ped passed by Autolycus and gave him a friendly slap on the arm. "Hey Auto, how's it going?"
"It's going," he said, downing his drink. "Would you like to dance?"
Ped grinned at him and they headed for the dancefloor...
